Jekyll Island Authority representatives, alongside emergency management and county officials, are continuing to monitor Hurricane Dorian. The current track shows positive shifts eastward but we are continuing to monitor the storm system for any potential changes. All of Glynn County, including Jekyll Island, is currently under a Storm Surge Warning and a Hurricane Warning. Increasing wind speeds are predicted through tonight and the strongest sustained winds are expected to impact Jekyll Island and other barrier islands.
 
JIA representatives are in ongoing consultations with Glynn County officials on re-entry procedures and final details will be forthcoming.

All bike paths, beaches and the Clam Creek Fishing Pier are closed, and the Downing Musgrove Causeway, also known as the Jekyll Island Causeway, will be closing tonight, Tuesday, September 3 at 8 p.m., in accordance with the Executive Order announced September 2.
 
Upon closure, the causeway will be barricaded and no entry will be permitted. Please be advised that the Georgia State Patrol, Glynn County Sheriff’s Department and DNR Law Enforcement will have a continued presence on the island and will take appropriate action as necessary. 
 
The Sidney Lanier Bridge will also be closing beginning tonight, Tuesday, September 3 at 8 p.m. At this time, it is unknown when the bridge will reopen. Following the storm, the bridge will be thoroughly inspected prior to reopening.
 
The Jekyll Island Authority has also issued a curfew, to begin Tuesday, September 3 at 8 p.m., following the causeway closure. Curfew will remain in place until further notice. During a curfew, it is prohibited for any person to appear in public in the territory subject to the curfew, including but not limited to, streets, sidewalks, public buildings, beaches, roads, in vehicles or otherwise, and any other public places on Jekyll Island during the stated hours of the curfew.
 
Understand that if you chose to stay and ignore the mandated evacuation order, be prepared to be self-sufficient during and after the storm with no assistance from emergency responders or the support of utilities. There is no guarantee that emergency services or water and sewer services will be available.
 
We strongly encourage everyone to follow the mandatory evacuation orders and leave Jekyll Island immediately. This storm is serious and should not be underestimated.

Georgia Power has provided the following information regarding ongoing preparations for potential power outages or impact:

• GPC Storm Center in Atlanta is open and constantly monitoring conditions. 
• All GPC line personnel across the state reported to work on Tuesday packed for one week. 
• Two large crews from Atlanta arrived Monday. One crew will be assigned to the Brunswick Area and one to the Savannah Area.
• Alabama Power and Mississippi Power crews are prepared to respond if needed.
• Staging areas along the coast are prepared and ready to receive crews.
• Leadership teams made up of managers and engineers from all over the state have been identified and are ready to move into the area if necessary.
• Storerooms have been stocked with extra transformers, poles and wire.
