Alert
Jekyll Island and Glynn County are still under a Tropical Storm Warning, Storm Surge Warning and a Hurricane Watch, as Hurricane Dorian has not yet passed Glynn County. The storm is still set to deliver tropical storm force winds to the area, causing potential power outages and wind damage. Strong winds and heavy rains will make it difficult and unsafe to drive. Please stay off of the roads and shelter in place at this time.
Jekyll Island representatives, along with city and county officials and partners, will be assessing any damages overnight and through the morning, once it is determined to be safe for them to do so, and will make decisions based on this assessment about timing to lift the evacuation order and begin re-entry phases. Any necessary repairs needed for power, water, and sewer systems will take place prior to the evacuation order being cancelled.
As a reminder, the Jekyll Island causeway and Sidney Lanier bridge are closed and Jekyll Island is under a curfew, prohibiting access to all public places on the island until the curfew has been lifted. Please be advised that the Georgia State Patrol, Glynn County Sheriff’s Department and DNR Law Enforcement will have a continued presence on the island and will take appropriate action as necessary.
To alert Georgia Power of any downed power lines and outages, please go to www.georgiapower.com/storm or call 888-891-0938.
Please continue to refer to the Glynn County EMA Facebook Page and the Jekyll Island website where JIA representatives will continue to provide updates as the storm passes through the area:
