As Santa Barbarans, we’re taking on a big challenge - the creation of a new police station. Our existing station is outdated, too small, and hasn’t been earthquake retrofitted. One of the first steps for a new station is selecting the location. Key considerations include size, parking, zoning, access to high call areas, conflicts inherent to each site, and the added costs if the site is not City owned.
 
Staff will review site considerations with City Council on Tuesday, September 17. The public is invited to attend and provide comments. All of the site criteria, analysis, and environmental review documents are available on the project website at www.SantaBarbaraCA.gov/PoliceStation, under “Planning Documents.” The staff report to City Council, which will describe the site selection process and the recommended sites, will be posted on Thursday, September 12.
