Advisory

Notice of Speed Enforcement Campaign - Crystal Lake Rd. & Indian Trl.

We are ready to put the brakes on speeding during a speed enforcement campaign being conducted now through September 30th. There will be a targeted focus on Crystal Lake Road and Indian Trail; motorists are advised the speed limit is 25mph in these areas. We will be targeting drivers who endanger the safety of others on the road by driving at speeds above the legally posted limit. Our goal is not to write a lot of tickets, but to show drivers how speeding drastically increases their chances of being in a crash. Through both education and enforcement, our objective is to promote the safety of motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists on our roadways.

5 Facts on the impact of speeding:
• When a pedestrian is hit by a car at 20 MPH there is a 10% likelihood of being killed, at a speed of 30 MPH the percentage increases to a 50% likelihood of being killed.
• When speeding, there is a greater chance that other road users will misjudge how fast you are traveling.
• Speeding extends the distance required to stop a vehicle in emergency situations.
• Speeding reduces a drivers ability to navigate safely around curves or objects in the roadway.
• Illinois is one of the top 4 states for speed related fatalities in the nation.

To avoid seeing our blue lights in the rearview mirror please obey speed limit and stop signs, drive alert, and wear your seatbelt.
