Seventeen year old student arrested at San Jose State for making threats and possession of a loaded firearm.

On Wednesday, September 18, 2019, Sunnyvale Public Safety Officers investigated threats made on social media reported to our department by Homestead High School staff. Through our investigation, the subject was identified as a 17-year-old San Jose State University student. Based on the nature of the threats, officers attempted to locate the subject. Sunnyvale Officers responded to San Jose State University and requested assistance with locating the student who was reported to be on campus. The subject was located by San Jose State University Police and found to be in possession of a loaded semi-automatic handgun, ammunition, and knife. San Jose State University Police arrested the subject without incident. Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety Investigations Unit worked with the District Attorney’s Office to obtain and serve a search warrant at the subject’s residence. During the search, officers located one additional handgun, an airsoft rifle, ammunition, equipment to manufacture ammunition and knives. All information obtained up to this point indicates the subject was acting alone. He was transported to Juvenile Hall and booked on charges of 422 PC, 626.9(h) PC, 29610 PC, 25850 PC, 29180 PC and 25400 PC. Due to the subject’s age, the name and identifying information will not be released at this time.
