VIDEO - Newark Police Officer Renders Life-Saving Aid to Shooting Victim

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose commends 4th Precinct Police Officer M. Sosa for his quick actions in rendering life-saving aid to a shooting victim on Tuesday, September 17, 2019.

“This officer’s care and concern for the life of the victim reflects the Newark Police Division’s heart for the community. Our aim is to treat the people we serve the way we want our own family members to be treated. 4th Precinct Officer Sosa did just that. Because of his actions, and those of the other officers involved, this victim’s life was spared,” he added.

At approximately 11 a.m., police responded to the 400 block of South 16th Street on a call of a shooting. Officers located the 50-year old male victim who had been shot. Officer Sosa attended to the victim, applying a tourniquet while awaiting the arrival of EMS. The victim was transported to University Hospital, where he reportedly remains in critical condition.

“Our detectives are following each and every lead in this investigation,” Director Ambrose said. “We are actively seeking information from the public concerning this incident. The community’s partnership is invaluable in bringing these suspects to justice.”
