An interior demolition permit has been issued to 804 Front Street in preparation of office renovations. This building was recently sold and will become the new Coldwell Baker office.
5101 Elm (Corner of Scully Drive and Elm St)
This property has gone through a foreclosure process with the bank recently taking possession, and staff has been working with the bank to have the property demolished. This week the bank contacted the City and has come to an agreement with a contractor to demo the building. The bank is finalizing the contract with the contractor and demolition of this structure will be starting soon.
323 Front Street Dons Subs
Permits have been received for Dons Subs located at 323 Front in The Fountains shopping center.
1104 N Green Street

Operation Dropbox
The City is again serving as a collection location for the 2nd annual Operation Dropbox campaign for Veterans. The collection time frame for this year will be September 9th – October 21st.
All donations will be given to TLS in McHenry and Hebron for those veteran’s utilizing their services. We have Dropboxes in the lobby of City Hall and at the Rec Center. Attached is a flyer on the program and a list of some donations needed.
MTI Expo (Manufacturing, Trade, and Industry Expo)
A career expo sponsored by MCC, MCHS Dist #156, City of McHenry, McHenry Area Chamber of Commerce, McHenry County EDC, and McHenry County Workforce Network will be taking place on Thursday September 26 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at McHenry East Campus, 1012 N. Green Street, McHenry. This expo brings local McHenry County Industries to McHenry Community High School to help promote their needs and the educational pathways that could benefit students as they seek careers. Senior students will be able to apply for $1,000 in post-secondary tech scholarships sponsored by the McHenry Sunrise Rotary Club.

At this week’s regular meeting the Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously recommended approval of Text amendments to the City of McHenry Zoning Ordinance: Article III. General Residential District Regulations; Article V. Commercial Districts and Article XIX Definitions regarding vaping establishments.

Public Works
Projects—
- Pearl Street Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program Improvements – Pours for concrete light pole foundations are ongoing and are being completed along Pearl Street. The stamped concrete pattern and color selections have been finalized and pours are beginning. The section of stamped concrete along Veterans Parkway was poured in the wrong color and will be removed and replaced at the contractor’s expense.
- Curran Road Highway Safety Improvement Program Project – Brush clearing for fill placement is anticipated to begin shortly. This work was delayed due to subcontractor approval lead times at IDOT but work is anticipated to proceed soon. Upon completion of brush clearing, suitable fill will be placed at various locations on the east side of Curran Road.
- 2019 Road Resurfacing Program – Concrete Curb and Gutter Removal and Replacements in Glacier Ridge Subdivision are ongoing and are anticipated to conclude shortly. Asphalt surface removal is scheduled to begin the week of September 23rd.
Street Division—
- In the beginning of the week, outstanding storm cleanup was completed at various locations throughout town.
- Asphalt Patching Operations were completed in the Lakeland Park neighborhood at locations on: Flower Street, Prairie Avenue, Beach Road, Highview Avenue.
- Other division work included shouldering operations on Timber Trail.
- On September 19th, Public Works began taking deliveries of salt for the 2019-2020 winter operations.
Utility Division
- Personnel began the 2019 Fall Hydrant Flushing Program this week and are approximately 50% complete.
- Personnel repaired a water main break at the intersection of Brown Street and Prestwick Street on September 16th. A boil order was issued for the 10 homes affected by the shut down and was lifted on September 17th after water sample results returned satisfactory.
Water Division—
- On September 19th, an electrical contractor replaced a 480 volt transformer in the MCC at WTP #2 located on Beach Road. The new transformer was installed and minimal down time was needed to complete the change out.

Group Fitness
- Friday Instructor’s Choice class this week 9/13 is HIIT with Ashley. Next Friday 9/20 will be Barre with Josie.
- Due to low class participation we will be cancelling the following classes starting next week 9/16. Wednesday BodyPump @ 11:00am and Thursday Cycle @ 9:30 am. I will gauge numbers as the weather starts to change and possibly add classes to those time slots. I will keep you posted. The class cancellations are posted at the front desk, the back bulletin board as well as aim Facebook.
- Due to low numbers for our Mala/Yoga workshop we are going to extend the date to 9/25 @ 6:30 - 8:00 pm. Please spread the word and share our flyer on our FaceBook Page.
Maintenance
- Electrical Repairs: Street Lights on Riverside Drive, Green St and Riverwalk have been repaired. Crews will continue repairing lights next week. Route 120 street lights between Green St and Park St were inoperable for a few days this week. It was found that wires short circuited in a control box. They have been repaired and lights are now operable.
- Landscaping: Downtown fall planting has begun. Green St and Riverwalk islands have been planted. Crews will move on to several downtown parks, corner planters and Riverwalk next week.
- Ballfield Maintenance: Extensive work was done to Knox Park this past week after heavy rains flooded both ballfields. Fields are open and playable.
- Tree Removal: Several large trees and branches came down in last week’s storm. Crews removed the tree’s and several other branches that were deemed unsafe. Several trees were removed on Miller point also.
- Riverwalk: The Riverwalk was extensively cleaned and prepared for the past weekends “Light up the Night” event.
- The Light the Night event this past Saturday was a huge success with an estimated attendance of over 1, 500. The improvements and the fire globes were very well received. Many people have inquired about the schedule for the lighting of the globes. They will be lit with fire every Saturday through October 26th. LED lights will light them the remainder of the days. In addition, the Parks Department will work with the Riverwalk Foundation to have music in the gazebo on September 28 and October 12 from 6-8pm when the globes are lit and will cap the season with an event that will also include music on October 26.
- Staff set up a meeting with an architect to begin restoration work on the horse barn at the Petersen Farm.
- Staff also met with an architect to remodel the Veterans Memorial Park washroom/storage building.
- The Sunrise Rotary club will host their Octoberfest at Petersen Park this Saturday. Come out and enjoy music, food and fun.
