Scam Alert Advisory
The Ontario Police Department has identified multiple fraud cases where suspects are spoofing Police Department phone numbers or other government agencies. These types of scams involve suspects pretending to be law enforcement officers and threatening arrest or other action if money is not sent. Often the suspect demands money in the form of gift cards. This is similar to the recent social security scams however your caller ID may show a local law enforcement phone number. The suspect will often provide another phone number for contact or request you to stay on the line until you provide the money.
We want to remind you the Ontario Police Department will never contact you and request money. If you are being asked to make any payments by gift cards STOP; simply reading the suspect the card numbers/codes is the same as handing over cash for the amount on the card. If you get this type of call we encourage you to hang up the phone without providing any personal information.
If you have further questions, please contact the Ontario Police Department at (909) 395-2001.
