City of Nederland Imelda Debris Pick Up

CITY OF NEDERLAND
The City’s Imelda Debris Operation will commence on Saturday, September 28th. The initial focus will be on the most severally impacted area – the Lakes of Nederland subdivision. DRC, the debris removal contractor, needs you to place your debris on city right-of-way as close to the curb as possible. In order to ensure the debris is collected as quickly as possible, it is necessary to have materials separated. The debris should be placed in separate piles as follows:
1. Green Waste (limbs, tree branches, logs, leaves, and vegetation);
2. Construction Debris (drywall, lumber, carpet and furniture);
3. Appliances;
4. Electronics (televisions, computers, printers, etc.);
DRC cannot pick-up debris placed in black garbage bags. The City recognizes separation of debris may be an inconvenience, but the City is following FEMA guidelines on debris. We ask you to move vehicles parked in front of debris piles; those vehicles may prevent the contractor from picking up debris at that location.
After Harvey, FEMA notified the City than an inspection of debris is NOT A FEMA REQUIREMENT; they suggested homeowners take photos for their insurance or NFIP. At this time, Tropical Storm Imelda has not been declared a federal disaster, and thus, no Individual Assistance or Public Assistance has been made available. However, the City will run its debris operation adhering to FEMA guidelines.
We ask for your cooperation and patience through this process. If you have any questions about debris removal, please call the Public Works Department at (409) 723-1541. The City Manager’s Office can be reached at (409) 723-1503
