Flash flood warning until 1:45AM 9/28/19. Heavy rain occurring & expected. Use caution on town roads due to flooding.

The National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood Warning for Porter County until 1:45AM 9/28/2019. Many town roads are experiencing flooding- please exercise caution when driving and avoid driving through the deep water. The area of 15 Hillcrest Road (north end) is under approximately a foot of water and should be avoided. For the latest weather updates, visit www.weather.gov

PORTER AND LAKE COUNTIES...

At 827 PM CDT, Doppler radar was continuing to indicate multiple
waves of heavy rainfall moving across the area. Rainfall of 2-4
inches has occurred so far, with rainfall rates of 1-3 inches per
hour ongoing.

Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Chicago, Joliet, Hammond, Gary, Bolingbrook, Orland Park, Tinley
Park, Oak Lawn, Romeoville, Plainfield, Calumet City, Portage,
Merrillville, Valparaiso, Chicago Heights, East Chicago,
Schererville, Hobart, Lansing and Crown Point.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

This warning includes numerous underpasses and other flood prone
areas. Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads.
Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Residents living along streams and creeks or other flood prone areas
should take immediate precautions to protect life and property.

A weather warning indicates a confirmed, current and present danger to this area.

Take necessary safety precautions.
