Flash Flood Watch until 06:00PM Tuesday

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for portions of north and central New Mexico, including the following areas: In central New Mexico, Eastern Lincoln County and South Central Mountains. In east central New Mexico, Curry County, De Baca County, Guadalupe County, Quay County, and Roosevelt County. In southeast New Mexico, Chaves County Plains and Southwest Chaves County.

* An anomalously high amount of tropical moisture will funnel into eastern New Mexico today through Tuesday, setting up numerous to widespread showers and storms. Storms producing heavy rainfall are expected to train or pass over the same areas producing flash flooding. Many areas will likely see two to four inches of rainfall over a 24 to 36 hour period stretching from the Sacramento Mountains northeastward through eastern Lincoln, De Baca, Guadalupe, Quay, Curry, Roosevelt, and Chaves Counties. Some localized amounts could reach as high as four to six inches by Wednesday morning.

* Impacts from flash flooding will include rapid rises on area arroyos and rivers. Low water crossings may become over-topped. Nighttime flash flooding will also make it particularly difficult to gauge depth of water, turn around don't drown. Urban areas and recent burn scars to include the Pine Lodge burn scar will be particularly susceptible to flash flooding, especially those areas with poor drainage.
