Detective Walt Thrower of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged David Alan Watts, 40, address listed as N.C. 226A in Marion, with failure to register as a sex offender.
                Watts was arrested on Sept. 22 by McDowell County sheriff’s deputies following a domestic dispute at his home on N.C. 226A and the theft of a Bible from the magistrate’s office.
                Upon further investigation, it was discovered that Watts is a registered sex offender in Alabama, having been convicted of attempted first-degree rape in September 2002 and first-degree sexual abuse in June 2010.
                Watts has been living in McDowell County for some time and has failed to register here as a sex offender.
