Following yesterday evening’s pollution discharge announcement from the Unified Command (UC) for the Saint Simons Sound Golden Ray Incident, The Jekyll Island Authority is continuing to work closely with the UC and Georgia DNR agencies to assess any potential impact to Jekyll Island beaches or marsh areas.
This morning, some oil was observed on Jekyll Island beaches and nearshore waters. DNR and JIA approvals have been issued for the deployment of equipment, and cleanup crews are in place on Jekyll Island.
