Los Altos Police monitoring potential PG&E Public Safety Power Shutoff
The Los Altos Police Department is closely monitoring updates from PG&E to gather information about a potential Public Safety Power Shutoff. Currently, there are a very small number of Los Altos parcels that may be impacted by a power shutoff. PG&E has committed to contacting those specific customers directly and has provided a map of the impacted areas, which can be viewed here: https://www.pge.com/en_US/safety/emergency-preparedness/natural-disaster/wildfires/psps-event-maps.page
While a wide-spread power shutoff is unlikely in Los Altos at this time, it is important for residents to be prepared to be without power. If you rely on electric or battery-dependent medical technologies such as assistive technology, breathing machines, a power wheelchair/scooter or home oxygen or dialysis, it is critical that you have a plan in place for an extended power outage. While a backup power can be helpful during an outage, it can also pose safety hazards when not used correctly. Improper use can risk damage to your property or endanger the lives of you, your family, or PG&E crews who may be working to restore power. Learn more here: https://www.pge.com/.
Make sure your email, phone number, language preference and mailing address are current on your PG&E account. This way PG&E will be able to inform you about the possible need to proactively turn off power for public safety.
Please visit PG&E for updates and information. This power shutdown may or may not impact our area, but it is best to be prepared and have a plan.
