On 10-08-2019 at approximately 12:30am, Sheriff’s deputies responded to the area of the North Little League in North Terre Haute in reference to a complaint of gun shots. As deputies were checking the area, they heard several gunshots, and a white male later identified as 38 year old Brent Powers was seen walking in the area of Michigan St and Markle Ave carrying a firearm. Deputies identified themselves and attempted to make contact with Powers. Powers then fled into a residence at 4100 E Markle Ave after being told several times to stop. Once inside the residence, Powers barricaded himself inside. Deputies attempted to make contact verbally with Powers several times but were unsuccessful. A perimeter was set up around the residence and the Prosecutor’s Office was contacted. Eventually a search warrant was issued and the THPD SRT team was called to assist. After a few hours, the standoff ended peacefully with Powers surrendering to police. There were no injuries to law enforcement or to Powers. Powers was arrested and taken to the Vigo County Jail charged with felony criminal recklessness with a firearm and resisting law enforcement. John Plasse Vigo County Sheriff
