We are receiving numerous calls from community members concerned about the absence of traffic control by law enforcement officers or stop signs at signalized intersections without power.  Many of the intersections are backed up with emergency battery power to keep the signal in flashing red.  When those batteries are depleted, usually between 6 and 8 hours, the signals go out completely.

Our public safety staff are currently monitoring these issues citywide and responding to the most urgent situations. Unfortunately, the City, County, and State public safety agencies do not have the staff to place officers at affected intersections.  Additionally, we do not place stop signs at signalized intersections because when the power is restored, the stop signs create confusion when lights go green etc. 

We appreciate the concern reported by community members and our outreach and public awareness efforts to promote the safety message to treat affected traffic signals as a four-way stop is a priority.  We appreciate the help of everyone in our community to raise the awareness of drivers in our community.  Please share this message with your neighbors.
