Advisory
Paul Matson just arrested for Feb-April 2019 Sun City burglaries. Thanks for your attention to our advisories.
During the months of February through April of 2019, there were several burglaries reported inside of Sun City. In the burglaries, the residents reported that unknown subject(s) entered their garages and stole property. In some of the cases, property had been stolen from vehicles parked inside the garages.
Sheriff’s Office deputies processed each of the burglary scenes for forensic evidence, which would be submitted to the Sheriff’s Office Forensic Services Laboratory for DNA analysis. In three of the burglary cases, the same DNA profile belonging to an unknown male subject was developed.
CODIS Hit
Sheriff’s Office DNA analysts uploaded the unknown male's profile to the Combined DNA Index System—CODIS—where it was searched against the DNA profiles of known offenders in the database. The CODIS search yielded a match to 54-year-old Paul Matson, who was identified as a resident of Sun City and a person of interest in the burglary investigations.
Following the DNA match of Matson to three Sun City burglaries—Honesty Lane, Humbert Court and Stratford Village Way—Sheriff’s Office investigators met with a Beaufort County magistrate and presented the facts of the cases. After hearing the facts, the magistrate issued warrants for the arrest of Paul Matson for three counts of Burglary 1st Degree and three counts of Petit Larceny.
