PSPS Curfew Arrests
On October 9th, 2019, the City of Morgan Hill initiated a curfew for the community during the evening hours in the areas potentially affected by the Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS). Morgan Hill PD began enforcing the curfew in affected areas when the power was eventually shut down at approximately 10:30 pm.
At approximately hours 11:57 pm, an MHPD patrol supervisor monitoring an affected area of town, located two male subjects walking in a darkened residential area. The patrol supervisor stopped and contacted the subjects. The supervisor advised the two subjects of the PSPS curfew and noticed one subject appeared to have small pieces of broken glass on their clothing. A records check revealed one subject had an outstanding warrant for his arrest and the other subject was on searchable probation. During the contact, officers located suspected burglary tools and property belonging to an unknown subject. Officers conducted an area check and located two parked vehicles with broken windows. MHPD officers contacted one vehicle owner and determined the property located on the suspects belonged to the victim. The stolen property was eventually returned to the victim and both suspects were arrested on a variety of charges to include auto burglary, possession of burglary tools, probation violation and warrants. 26-year-old Tracy, Ca resident Chris Gomez and 21-year-old San Jose, Ca resident Jason Gomez were later booked into Santa Clara County Jail.
The ultimate goal of this curfew was to keep our community safe and deny people with bad intent the opportunity to victimize our residents during a power outage. We appreciate the community support and the willingness to remain flexible during a statewide emergency.
