VEHICLE: 2003 green Honda Civic 4Door
On October 8, 2019, at 3:07 P.M., officers responded to the 342-block of W. Calaveras Boulevard on the report of a brandishing with a handgun due to a road rage incident. Officers arrived on scene within 16 seconds of the originating call, but the suspects fled in a green Honda Civic 4 door.
In less than one hour, an officer located the suspect’s vehicle on N. Park Victoria Drive and E. Calaveras Boulevard. A short vehicle pursuit ensued and the suspect’s stopped on N. Hillview Drive and Hillview Court. The driver, later identified as Mario Franco-Alvarado, remained at the scene and was taken into custody without incident. The passenger, Jose Leonardo Mejia, immediately fled on foot. During the foot pursuit, Mejia discarded a loaded semi-automatic handgun, but was apprehended by responding officers.
Franco-Alvarado was booked into the Santa Clara County main jail on charges of brandishing of a handgun and evading a police officer. Mejia was booked into jail on charges of carrying a concealed firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, and resisting arrest.
