On Saturday, October 19, 2019 at 8:26pm an Absecon Police Department patrol unit conducted a motor vehicle stop on Delilah Rd. for a speeding violation observed on the White Horse Pike (Rt. 30). The patrol officer made contact with several occupants in the vehicle. While speaking with the occupants he detected the odor of controlled dangerous substances (CDS) coming from the vehicle. The occupants were subsequently removed from the vehicle. The front seat passenger Lamar J. Cherry, 27 of Atlantic City, was found to be in possession of a .45 caliber handgun and a quantity of suspected marijuana.

After a brief struggle Mr. Cherry was taken into custody and transported to the police station. The remaining two occupants were issued motor vehicle summonses and released. Mr. Cherry was charged with Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of Marijuana over 50 grams, Distribution of CDS, and Resisting Arrest. A warrant was approved by the Honorable Judge Rosenberger and Mr. Cherry was lodged into the Atlantic County Jail.
