Advisory

PG&E has provided us with updated information that the Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) is now for 10/26/19 at 7pm

update posted at 6:50 pm 10/25/19.

PG&E has provided us with updated information that the Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) is now scheduled to begin on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.  PG&E crews will begin shutting off power at that time.  You can confirm that power will be shut off at your address by checking the PG&E website at www.psps.ss.pge.com.

EBMUD has confirmed that they have emergency generators in place and will continue to provide water service.  Water pressure may be affected in some pressure zones.  Check to see if you are in one of these areas at www.ebmud.com/PSPS2019.

PG&E will be locating a Community Resource Center at the front parking lot of St. Mary’s College at 1928 St. Mary’s Road.  The center will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. beginning on Sunday and provide charging stations, water and snacks. There will also be a charging station at the Lafayette Police Department in the lobby from 9am to 5pm

The power restoration efforts, which may take up to 48 hours, are scheduled to begin on Monday after the weather event has ended, tentatively 2:00 p.m.  Before the power can be restored, every line must be inspected to ensure they are ready to accept energy.  Damage must be repaired before a line can be energized, which can delay re-powering. If you see a line that is damaged (i.e. line down, fallen branch or tree on the line, etc.), please report it to PG&E at (800) 743-5000 so that it can be repaired as soon as possible and not delay power being restored.

As a reminder, PG&E field crews are working hard to maintain the safety of our community.  They did not make the decision to turn the power off.  I met with one of their crews on Wednesday and they are dedicated to restoring our power as quickly as they can when cleared to do so.  Please don’t blame them for the PSPS or take out your frustration on them.  Instead, consider taking the time to say “Thank you” when you see one of them working in our City.

Contra Costa Fire Protection District is working with other public safety agencies to ensure that our community remains safe.  For non-emergency calls, please call (925) 284-5010.  For emergency calls, please call 9-1-1.

More information about the PSPS can be found at www.pge.com.  We will send out additional or updated information as we receive it from PG&E.  Please contact the Lafayette Police Department with any additional questions or concerns at (925) 283-3680.
