Public Works

Projects—
  • Pearl Street Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program Improvements – Thermoplastic decorative crosswalks are complete.  The contractor has responded to the City letter concerning deficiencies and has proposed some corrective actions.  Public Works and IDOT will evaluate the contractor’s proposed fix and issue a response.  Street lights have been ordered, and all of the concrete bases and wiring have been installed.  The street lights are expected to arrive and be installed before Thanksgiving.
  • 2019 Road Resurfacing Program – There are 6-10 driveway repairs that will be performed by the contractor in the next couple of weeks.  Once the driveway repairs are finished, the project will be 100% complete.  Due to some value engineering adjustments that were made during construction, we are projecting that the final contract value will be under the awarded value.

  • Curran Road Highway Safety Improvement Program Project – Paving and pavement markings were completed last week.  Several other miscellaneous items will need to be completed in the upcoming weeks such as guardrails, shoulder work, and restoration.  Intermittent lane closures will be necessary for construction of those items with an anticipated completion date before Thanksgiving.

Street Division—
  • Crews placed over 80 tons of asphalt this week.

Utility Division—
  • Crews installed two new fire hydrants at 5119 Shorehill Drive and 1815 Lakewood Avenue this week.

Water Division—
On Wednesday October 30th, the Water Division received an alarm for a Well #9 failure. Well #9 is one of two wells (#9 and #10) that feed Water Treatment Plant #4. Upon investigation, it was evident that some electrical components burnt and failed. A well contractor was called to assess the condition of the well motor on Thursday, October 31st, and after completing several tests, the contractor determined the motor is in good condition.  The contractor is currently completing a quote to replace the damaged components, and once received, a decision will be made to repair the damaged electrical components.   For the interim period, Well #10 will run in order to serve demand at Plant #4.
