Why:
Alcohol plays a role in the social and leisure activities of many people in the City of Santa Barbara. Due to its harmful effects, high-risk alcohol consumption is a public health and safety concern. Local control of alcohol policies can be effective in promoting moderate alcohol consumption and lowering alcohol-related nuisance activity in and around our community. These policies have the potential to influence community social norms, by setting a positive benchmark for public health and safety and licensed alcohol outlets.
