Narrative:
On November 8th 2019, Evan Briers was arrested for Grand Theft following an investigation by the Camarillo Special Enforcement Detail.
On October 23rd 2019 at approximately 1955 hours, a Camarillo resident saw a male suspect rummaging through her unlocked vehicle which was parked in the driveway of a residence in the 1400 Block of N. Gracia Street in the city of Camarillo. The resident ran outside, yelling at the suspect while she called 911. The suspect quickly fled on foot after stealing her purse and other items from inside the vehicle. The purse contained approximately $1,000.00 from a recent paycheck.
The suspect ran to a vehicle which was parked on the street. The victim gave chase and caught up to the suspect as he was seated in the vehicle. The victim grabbed her purse from inside suspect’s vehicle before the suspect quickly drove away, although the items which had been inside her purse were missing. The victim was able to obtain the license plate of the suspect’s vehicle.
Detectives assigned to the Camarillo Special Enforcement Detail and Camarillo Patrol Deputies conducted a follow-up investigation and identified the suspect as Evan Briers, a Simi Valley resident. Briers is currently on Ventura County probation for theft and drug charges with search terms. Based upon the circumstances, detectives believed Briers had committed the crime in violation of California Penal Code 487(a)/Felony Grand Theft.
On November 8th 2019 at approximately 1430 hours, Camarillo Special Enforcement Detectives located and stopped Briers while he was driving his vehicle in Simi Valley. Detectives conducted a probation search on Briers’ vehicle and at his residence. Evidence was obtained during the probation searches that confirmed Briers’ involvement in the Camarillo grand theft.
Based upon the result of the investigation, detectives arrested Briers for 487(a) PC / Grand Theft.
Briers was booked at the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility with a pending court date.
