Construction updates on water mains, Northwest Resiliency Park, PSE&G tree pruning

Below is an update on construction regarding Hoboken's water main replacement project, the Northwest Resiliency Park, and PSE&G tree pruning.

Water Infrastructure Upgrades:
The City is continuing with the first phase of its water main replacement project, which will replace a total of 15 blocks, or 7,000 linear feet of Hoboken’s oldest water mains. This project is continuing the week of November 18 on Garden Street and 1st Street. The following street closures will occur this week during the hours of 8 am – 4 pm, for the excavation and installation of new water mains:

  • Garden Street between 1st  Street and 2nd Street, and 1st Street between Park Avenue and Garden Street will be closed on Monday 11/18/19 and Wednesday 11/19/19. The contractor will be working in the Garden Street and 1st Street intersection during those days.
  • Garden Street will be closed between 1st Street and 2nd Street on Wednesday 11/20/19 thru Friday 11/22/19.
Parking will be restricted during this time as well. No water service interruptions are anticipated. More information about the water infrastructure upgrades project is available at https://www.hobokennj.gov/resources/drinking-water-infrastructure-upgrades-phase-1

Northwest Resiliency Park:
Construction is continuing on Hoboken’s 5 acre Northwest Resiliency Park, which will become New Jersey’s largest resiliency park. During the week of November 18, construction will begin on the underground storage tank, which will have the capacity to store up to 1 million gallons of rainwater to reduce flooding during storms. Driving steel piles for the underground storage tank will take place for several weeks. There will be some noise and vibration associated with this work. More information about noise and vibration mitigation measures is available at http://nwpark-cityofhoboken.opendata.arcgis.com/pages/construction-updates

12th Street between Madison Street and Jefferson Street has closed permanently for the Northwest Resiliency Park, where a multi-purpose athletic field will be constructed. The following traffic circulation changes are now in effect:
  • 10th Street will be westbound between Madison and Jefferson
  • 11th Street will be eastbound between Monroe and Jefferson
  • 12th Street will be eastbound between Jefferson and Adams
  • Jefferson Street will be northbound between 11th and 12th Street
Please reference the attached map for an illustration of the route changes.  More information about the Northwest Resiliency Park project and construction updates are available at www.hobokennj.gov/nwpark.

PSE&G Tree Pruning:
PSE&G will be trimming trees on Park Avenue, Garden Street, 2nd Street, 4th Street, 6th Street, 10th Street and 12th Street from 8 AM - 4 PM, Monday 11/18/19 through Friday 11/22/19. PSE&G has provided informational door-hangers to notify residents next to affected trees. The tree trimming does not include the removal of any trees; only pruning. This work is required every 4 years by the NJ Board of Public Utilities because keeping power lines clear of vegetation is crucial to the safety and reliability of electric service.
