Today, at approximately 1105 hours, deputies responded to Peterson Park, located within the 24000 block of Sylvan Glen Drive in Diamond Bar, regarding a trash fire. It was determined that smoldering trash left at the park, containing an unknown chemical, was producing gas and fumes. The source of the fire came from trash collected at a nearby residence on Sylvan Glen. That location experienced a smaller trash fire, which also produced gas and fumes. A hazardous materials team from LA County Fire is on-scene at both locations. Several residences were evacuated as a precaution, however, at this time no additional evacuations are anticipated. It appears the fire was an accidental mixture of chemicals, which were improperly disposed of. This incident does not pose any danger to the general public, however, we ask that you please stay away from Peterson Park and the immediate surrounding area until further notice.
