Storm Preparation in Chula Vista; Sandbags Available for Residents.
Significant rain is predicted to begin on Wednesday this week and continue through Friday. The City of Chula Vista is planning accordingly. Public Works and Parks crews have been preparing by checking storm drains and drainage areas throughout the city including the parks where staff have placed straw waddle and sand bags to divert excessive water flow to the drains.
Public Works has filled sandbags for distribution to residents in advance of the rain. Chula Vista residents may obtain up to 10 free sandbags at the Public Works Center located at 1800 Maxwell Road. Sandbags will be available today through Wednesday from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Proof of residency is required. In addition, sandbags will be available at Fire Station 1, located at 447 F Street, and Fire Station 4, located at 850 Paseo Ranchero, on Tuesday, November 26, from 2 to 7 p.m. only.
As a reminder to all drivers, if your wipers are on, your headlights must be on. And please do not attempt to drive through flooded areas.
To report any downed trees or limbs, flooded streets, or other urgent issues in Chula Vista, please call the non-emergency Dispatch line at Public Works at (619) 397-6000. The Public Works Dispatch will be open today through Wednesday, November 27, from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. After hours, please call the Police Department Dispatch at (619) 691-5151.
Most likely, ball fields in the City will be closed for several days once the rain begins. Please visit http://www.chulavistaca.gov/departments/recreation/about-us/sports-athletics for the latest updates on field status.
Stay dry and drive safely!
