...SIGNIFICANT WINTER WEATHER EXPECTED THIS WEEKEND... .A storm system will approach northwest California today. Heavy snow is expected across much of Trinity County, as well as portions of interior Humboldt County and northeast Mendocino County above 2000 to 3000 feet. Heavy snow will be probable at highway pass levels this afternoon and evening. Snowfall will then dissipate later tonight as precipitation diminishes in intensity and snow levels rapidly rise.

* WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 5 to 12 inches, with higher amounts expected for elevations above 3000 feet. Winds will also gust from 40 to 60 mph across exposed ridges.

* WHERE...Northern Humboldt Interior and Southern Humboldt Interior Counties. This includes highway 299 at Berry Summit.

* WHEN...From 11 AM this morning to 10 AM PST Sunday.

* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult.

* AFFECTED AREAS: NORTHERN HUMBOLDT INTERIOR ... SOUTHERN HUMBOLDT INTERIOR
