...SIGNIFICANT WINTER WEATHER EXPECTED THIS WEEKEND... .A storm system will continue to bring periods of heavy snow across much of Trinity County tonight, as well as portions of interior Humboldt County and northeast Mendocino County above 2000 to 3000 feet. Many highway passes will be snow-covered and treacherous overnight. Precipitation will taper off late tonight or early Sunday morning. Additionally, snow levels will rise above most pass levels on Sunday, resulting in much better road conditions.
* WHAT...Heavy snow with 5 to 8 inches expected above 3000 feet. Lower amounts of 2 to 4 inches expected from 2,500 to 3,000 feet. Higher amounts expected above 4000 feet. Winds may gust from 40 to 60 mph across exposed ridges.
* WHERE...Mainly rural areas above 3,000 feet. Several inches possible down to 2,500 feet which will impact Berry Summit on Highway 299.
* WHEN...Until 4 AM PST Sunday.
* IMPACTS...Travel could be difficult.
