Montebello, CA – On today’s date (December 9th, 2019) at approximately 11:29 a.m. Officers were dispatched to the Quality Inn, 7709 Telegraph Rd. regarding a male individual that was breaking things inside his room on the fourth floor of the Inn. It was reported that the individual was possibly suffering from a mental health condition.
Upon arrival, officers saw the individual in a room, standing next to the room’s open window. It appeared as though the screen had been pushed partially out. His mother was concerned that he was going to jump from the window and requested assistance.
With the assistance of the Montebello Fire Department, the Pasadena Fire Department’s Task Force 32 was notified, responded and deployed their rescue cushion as a precautionary measure in the event the individual jumped from the window. Several attempts to speak with the male were made via phone and announcements via a public address system, but both were unsuccessful.
Officers continually attempted to speak with the individual for over an hour as he stood near the window. The individual then walked away from the window towards the room door at which time officers were able to safely restrain the individual for his own safety without any further incident.
Based on his actions, the Montebello Police Department Mental Health Evaluation Team transported the individual to a local hospital for treatment and evaluation.
