‘Tis the season to look out for each other and to love thy neighbor. The Absecon Police Department is asking our residents’ help in keeping vigilant with any suspicious activity or suspicious persons in their neighborhoods. We are experiencing an increase in vehicle burglaries in almost all areas of town and need your help in catching the season’s grinches. If you see someone or something that is out of place in your neighborhood or around town please call it into the police department. We would rather be safe then have someone be sorry this holiday season. The police department’s non-emergency phone number is (609) 641-0667 (we urge you to save it into your phones) and for emergencies please call 9-1-1.

In the past three months we have had fourteen reported vehicle burglaries, mostly to unlocked vehicles. We know that it is common for vehicle burglaries to go unreported if the victims see that there is nothing taken but we urge you to report the incident anyway. The police department can use this information to set up a possible pattern and to try to obtain surveillance footage in the area in an attempt to identify the suspect(s).

Items that have been recently stolen from the vehicles include coins, cash, checks, medications, identification, credit cards, cell phones, car keys, house keys, pocketbooks, and wallets. We have even had a vehicle stolen from someone’s driveway after they left it unlocked with the keys inside. Many of our victims have had their credit/bank cards stolen and used before they even knew they were missing.

So please this holiday season help us help you and each other to keep safe. Please remember to keep your vehicles locked at all times and to call in anything that looks out of the ordinary. When possible try to park in well lit areas and be cognizant of your surroundings. We hope you reach your destinations safely and responsibly.
