Officer Involved Shooting Investigation
Ontario Police are investigating a homicide which led to an officer involved shooting.
Ontario Police Dispatch received a 911 call from a male who stated he was bleeding and in need of medical attention at 2:37 this morning. Police and Fire Department personnel were dispatched to the residence in the 1300 block of East F Street.
The first responding officers made contact with an adult male victim at the front door of the residence and discovered he was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. As the male exited the house to receive medical treatment, a female confronted the officers while armed with a handgun and an officer involved shooting occurred in which both officers fired their handguns.
Following the shooting, the female, who was later identified as the male victim’s wife, retreated out of the officers’ view. Officers learned that the couple have two children and it was believed both children were still inside. Additional Ontario personnel including members of the SWAT and Crisis Response Teams responded to assist with negotiations. After a 5-hour stand-off, officers made entry into the house and discovered the female and both children were deceased and had sustained apparent gunshot wounds.
The adult male victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds he sustained prior to police arrival.
The suspected female is an off-duty Officer with the San Bernardino County Probation Department. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The children are a teenage female and an elementary age male. They were both pronounced deceased at the scene.
The names of all involved parties are being withheld until all notifications have been made by the San Bernardino County Coroner’s office.
No officers were injured in the incident.
