Mobile Home Park Without Water

Nature of Incident: Mobile Home Park Without Water
Location: Vallecito Mobile Home Park, Newbury Park
Date & Time: January 1, 2020
Unit(s) Responsible: Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, Thousand Oaks Police Department, Ventura County Fire Department, city of Thousand Oaks, American Red Cross, and Ventura County Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
Narrative:
On January 1, 2020, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office learned that residents at the Vallecito Mobile Home Park in the city of Newbury Park had been without water for several days because of a main water line rupture.  Initial repairs were not successful and the water had to be shut off affecting approximately 300 mobile homes in the park.  The mobile home park has many elderly residents.

Resources from the city of Thousand Oaks, Thousand Oaks Police Department, Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Services (OES), Ventura County Fire Department, Ventura County EMS and American Red Cross have worked with the mobile home park management to supply bottled water to the residents while the water line is successfully repaired.

Additionally, to assist the residents, the Sheriff’s Office supplied a bulk water truck to assist the residents with sanitary needs.  There have also been portable restrooms placed throughout the mobile home park.  A nurse, with Ventura County EMS, has contacted residents for any medical needs and has provided care as needed.

The repairs are expected to be completed sometime later today.  It is recommended that residents boil water before consumption for the 24 hour period after water service is restored, or continue using the bottled water for cooking and drinking.  The restored water service may be used for bathing purposes.
