Barricaded suspect surrenders after SWAT Standoff .
DATE OF RELEASE: January 03, 2020
On Friday, January 03, 2020 at 12:10 AM, the West Covina Police Department received a phone call from a male who initially reported a disturbance at his residence located in the 1300 block of W. Bainbridge Avenue, West Covina. The caller then refused to provide any additional information.
Officers arrived at the location and contacted the female victim who was out of the residence and was injured. Officers attempted several times to make contact with the suspect who was still inside the location but received no response. It was later discovered that the suspect had barricaded himself in the attic of the residence. When officers approached the area of the attic, the suspect opened the attic door and began pouring gasoline out striking the officers and then threw ignited items at them. The West Covina PD SWAT Team and the West Covina Fire Department were then called to respond to the location.
After attempts to make contact with the suspect failed throughout the evening, chemical agents were deployed into the attic. The suspect then broke a hole onto the roof and climbed out. At 10:44 AM, the suspect climbed down a ladder and was taken into custody.
The total time of the incident was 10 hours, 34 minutes.
The suspect is identified as Nicholas Isidro Misquez, 48 of West Covina. He was transported to a mental health facility for evaluation. Upon his release, he will be booked at the WCPD for Attempted Murder on a Police Officer, Attempted Arson, Domestic Violence with injuries and several outstanding warrants. Bail will be then set at $450,000.00.
Several neighboring residents were evacuated throughout the incident and were permitted to return to their homes following the suspect’s surrender.
