On 12/25/2019, at approximately 9:02 AM, deputies responded to a report of a deceased male located in the side yard of a residence near the 100 block of 2nd Street in Moorpark.
The deceased male was identified as Garrett Wayne and he was known to the area. Investigators from the Major Crimes Bureau and the Moorpark Police Department responded. Investigators found Wayne had no major injuries to his body. Investigators learned Wayne was at a nearby residence the night prior and had become heavily intoxicated. Neighbors attempted to escort him out of the yard, but Wayne fell asleep in the side yard. Investigators found there was no evidence that Wayne was a victim of a crime. The final cause of death is pending a toxicology report from the Medical Examiner’s Office.
Investigators conducted a follow-up investigation regarding social media posts which suggested Wayne was a victim of a crime. The parties recanted the information they posted on social media and admitted they never saw any criminal activity. Any information that Wayne was a victim of a crime was found to be untrue.
