The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning from Sunday, January 12, 2020, until January 15, 2020, at 11:00 pm for the Yellow River in Plymouth. They have also issued a Flood Warning for the Tippecanoe River at Ora, which may affect Tippecanoe Township in Marshall County from Sunday, January 12, 2020, until further notice. Currently, between 3-5 inches of rain is expected.
NEW INFORMATION: The chance for freezing rain for Saturday has been removed at this time. The models indicate the best chance for freezing rain will be north of I-94.
The Yellow River is currently at 5.18 feet and is forecast to reach 15 feet by 2 pm on Monday, January 13, 2020. Flood stage is 13 feet
* At 14 feet the small trailer park near the Jefferson Street bridge begins to flood.
* At 15 feet commercial property along Laporte Street and Garro Street begins to flood.
The Tippecanoe River at Ora is currently at 7.69 feet and is forecast to reach 13.7 feet by 2 pm on Monday, January 13, 2020. Flood stage is 12 feet.
IMPACTS: FLOODING WILL OCCUR. Significant flooding of low lying areas, streams, creeks, ditches and retention ponds. Major River Flooding Likely. Flooding/Ponding on road surfaces with the potential for some roads to flood over may make for hazardous traveling conditions for the general public and may impede response from emergency responders.
PROTECTIVE ACTION: PEOPLE LIVING IN AREAS THAT ARE PRONE TO FLOODING SHOULD TAKE ACTION NOW. Move vulnerable property to higher ground, closely monitor the forecast and be prepared to implement their emergency plan. Never drive around road closed due to high water signs. Never drive through high water. Turn around and find a safer route.
