...Flash Flooding Possible Across the Mid-South Friday Night into Saturday Morning... The National Weather Service in Memphis has expanded the

* Flash Flood Watch to include portions of North Mississippi and West Tennessee, including the following areas, in North Mississippi, Alcorn, Benton, Calhoun, Chickasaw, Coahoma, DeSoto, Itawamba, Lafayette, Lee, Marshall, Monroe, Panola, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Quitman, Tallahatchie, Tate, Tippah, Tishomingo, Tunica, Union, and Yalobusha. In West Tennessee, Benton, Carroll, Chester, Crockett, Decatur, Dyer, Fayette, Gibson, Hardeman, Hardin, Haywood, Henderson, Henry, Lake, Lauderdale, Madison, McNairy, Obion, Shelby, Tipton, and Weakley.

* From late tonight through Saturday afternoon

* Over 2 inches of rain is possible through Saturday morning

* Thunderstorms will become widespread as a storm system arrives from the southern Plains Friday Night. Initially, storms may sit for several hours Northeast Arkansas and the Missouri Bootheel Friday evening before finally pushing east. Torrential downpours will possible with the storms. Since vegetation is dormant, and not consuming much ground water, runoff from heavy rain will be increased. This elevates the concern for flash flooding. Also, rapid rises may occur on creeks, small streams, and flashy rivers. Flooding of low-lying and poorly drained areas, as well as low water crossings, can be expected.
