Generous Donation for New Training Facility

Nature of Incident: Generous Donation for New Training Facility
Unit(s) Responsible: Ventura County Sheriff’s Foundation

Narrative:
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Foundation has received a generous financial donation from the Dr. Richard Grossman Community Foundation that will be used to help design and build a live fire training facility at the existing Sheriff’s range in Camarillo. Elizabeth Rice Grossman, the President of the Dr. Richard Grossman Community Foundation worked with David Alpern and Doug Platts of the Sheriff’s Foundation to facilitate the $250,000 donation. The donation will be offered in the honor of Lane Weitzman. In July 2017, the Dr. Richard Grossman Community Foundation donated $750,000 to establish the Dr. Richard Grossman Scholarship Fund for the children of Ventura County Sheriff’s Office employees.

Lane Weitzman was a long-time member of our community, an avid supporter of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, as well as a good friend of former Sheriff Geoff Dean, and a proficient shooter that frequented Dr. Grossman’s Brookfield Farms on many occasions.

“Lane was a wonderful friend of my husband’s. It’s so fitting that the Foundation is able to honor Lane with this donation. Having a resource such as this facility available to all first responders will have a profound impact upon our community. We are so grateful for this opportunity” - Elizabeth Grossman

The Sheriff’s Foundation is embarking on a project that will fund a new tactical training center in honor of Sgt. Ron Helus. Amongst other improvements, the facility will include a live fire “shoot house” named after Mr. Weitzman. The center will provide Ventura County, and its surrounding neighbors, with the training and resources necessary to ensure our community is served by the best trained, best equipped and most prepared peace officers in the country.

“The level of support law enforcement receives in this county is unparalleled. We are so grateful for the substantial and unwavering support provided by the Dr. Richard Grossman Community Foundation and Elizabeth. This donation coupled with the work of the Sheriff’s Foundation will pave the way toward new methods and advancements in training our law enforcement officers.”
Bill Ayub, Sheriff
