Weather Alerts Issued

NWS has issued the following alerts:
Flood Watch in effect from Noon Friday January 17 until 6 AM Saturday January 18.
Heavy rainfall from last weekend has resulted in soils remaining
saturated and river and lake levels being higher than normal.
Another round of precipitation is expected on Friday afternoon
and night where some areas will receive between 1 and 2 inches.
Much of the precipitation is expected to be in the form of
liquid and will quickly become runoff due to cold ground or
already existing frozen precipitation on the ground.

* Heavy rainfall will result in flooding of low lying or poor
drainage areas...and ultimately dangerous flash flooding on
smaller creeks and streams. Significant rises on larger
streams and rivers will also be possible.

Winter Weather Advisory from 9 AM Friday January 17 until Midnight.
WHAT...Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow and sleet
accumulations of up to one inch and ice accumulations of up to
two tenths of an inch. Winds gusting as high as 30 mph.

* WHERE...Portions of east central and southeast Missouri and
south central and southwest Illinois.

* WHEN...From 9 AM Friday to midnight CST Friday night.

* IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous
conditions could impact the evening commute.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Temperatures below freezing and cold
surfaces will allow precipitation to accumulate readily on
untreated surfaces.

Instructions:

A Winter Weather Advisory is issued for a variety of winter
weather conditions, such as snow, blowing snow, sleet, or
freezing drizzle and rain. It only takes a small amount of wintry
precipitation to make roads, bridges, sidewalks, and parking lots
icy and dangerous. It is often difficult to tell when ice begins
to form, so do not be caught off guard.
A Flood Watch is advanced notice that conditions are favorable
that may lead to flooding. People in the Watch area, especially
in flood prone areas, should use this time to check on
preparedness requirements. Stay informed, and be ready for action
if flooding is observed or if a Flood Warning is issued.
