Starbucks

Building Department staff inspected the Starbucks building at 4305 Elm Street, while the damage to the building is extensive there is no concern of structural failure. The site has been fenced off and contractors are on site providing temporary bracing where the roof is compromised. Gas and electric have been disconnected and all plumbing systems drained to prevent further damage from freezing. The building will be temporarily boarded up and secured until a structural engineer can perform an inspection and supply a report to city staff.

City Planner

The City’s CMAP Local Technical Assistance grant application to update the Comprehensive Plan has made it to the final round of projects.  More information will be provided as it is made available.

Public Works

Projects—
  • Pearl Street Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program Improvements – The contractor has provided temporary backfill adjacent to the sidewalk for safety reasons.  Due to weather, that area will be fully restored in the Spring. All street lights have been installed.  Final connection will be performed by ComEd.  The RE and contractor have been in contact with ComEd for service.  All road construction signs have been removed.  The contractor will provide construction signs only on the days that they will be working from this point forward.  The project is 95% complete.

  • Curran Road S-curve Improvements – The last remaining item is the guardrail installation at the two curve locations.   An AT&T phone cable is in conflict with the guardrail posts.  AT&T has started the cable relocation and is expected to complete the work in one week.  This work is being done at no cost to the City since the cable is in our right-of-way.  Weather permitting, the contractor will be mobilizing to complete the guardrail installation in February or March.

Street Division—
  • Crews responded to a 3-day ice and snow event beginning on Saturday, January 11th, using over 180 tons of salt on the roadways.
  • Crews responded to a minor ice event on Wednesday, January 15th, using 33 tons of salt on the roadways.

Utility Division—
On January 15th at approximately 8:20AM, a vehicle struck a fire hydrant on Mercy Drive at South IL Route 31. Due to the fact that the water main had to be shut down temporarily while the hydrant was isolated, a boil order was issued. The hydrant was replaced and is now back in service. After water sample
