K9 Smokey & Deputy Pederson contact Christina Aquino in a jail parking lot and find she is in possession of narcotics

SUSPECT(S): Christina Darlene Aquino, 39-year old resident of San Bernardino
VICTIM(S): People of the State of California
SUMMARY: In January 2020 the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department recruited the help of narcotics detection K9 "Smokey" and his handler Deputy Pedersen to combat the smuggling of narcotics into the department's Detention and Corrections Bureau facilities. Smokey and Deputy Pedersen conduct interior and exterior proactive enforcement at Central Detention Center in San Bernardino, High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto, West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga and Glen Helen Rehabilitation Center in Devore.
On January 17, 2020, at approximately 3:00 p.m., Dep. Pedersen and Smokey were conducting proactive enforcement in the visitor parking lot at Central Detention Center when they contacted 39- year-old San Bernardino resident Christina Aquino, who is currently on Post Release Community Supervision. Aquino was found to be in possession of several grams of suspected methamphetamine and through further investigation, it was discovered Aquino was smuggling narotics into the detention faclility during visits with inmates. Over the duration of several visits, Aquino had picked the epoxy from the visiting window seams which allowed her to slide thin methamphetamine and marijuana bindles through the window to inmates. Aquino was booked into West Valley Detention Center for PC 4573 Bringing Narcotics into a Jail Facility and PC 3455-Probation Violation. The investigation is ongoing in order to identify other subject(s) involved in the smuggling of narcotics.
Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS) is a result of the AB109 prison realignment bill signed by Governer Brown in 2011.
