Coronavirus Information

Friday January 24, 1130 hours Los Angeles County Department of Public Health Novel Coronavirus Tele-briefing Information:

  • There are no known cases of this virus in Los Angeles County.
  • Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (DPH) rates the risk of transmission of this infection as “low.”
  • Information has been provided by the DPH to City Officials, Schools, the Medical Community and other organizations that may have affected communities.
  • The Center for Disease Control (CDC) is the only testing center capable of definitive results for detecting this infection.  Turnaround for testing is 24 hours.
  • Screening systems are already in place anytime a patient is transported from an international flight.  Instruction is being provided to travelers from the area of Wuhan City, China that if they subsequently experience any symptoms, they need to seek medical attention.
  • There is no reason to ban any individuals from any public contacts, public events, or school that have traveled from Wuhan City, China and are not exhibiting any symptoms.  Only a person with symptoms present a risk.  Any symptomatic patient should be referred to medical treatment.
  • Regular flu is common in our County, history of the patient is the key, unless someone has traveled or been exposed to someone that has traveled to Wuhan City there is no risk from the Novel Coronavirus.
  • Symptoms of Novel Coronavirus are general for the flu, fever, cough, runny nose, and during later stages may include difficult breathing.
  • If there is a case in Los Angeles County, DPH has a method to alert the nearly 30,000 medical providers in the County, and other recipients of the DPH Alerts.  The SMFD currently receives the DPH Alerts.
  • If an individual is encountered and is really sick, call 911.
  • The City of San Marino will be printing out information concerning the Novel Coronavirus from the DPH website and make it available to residents at our Police, and Fire Departments, City Hall, Library and Recreation facilities.
  • Best information for the public concerning this virus can be obtained from www.publichealth.lacounty.gov. or 211.
