We will be participating in the second North County Gun Buyback event, Saturday, 2/29, 8AM-12PM. More details here
The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office and the cities and police departments of Sunnyvale, Los Altos, Mountain View, Palo Alto, Santa Clara, and Campbell are coming together to host the second North County Gun Buyback on Saturday, February 29, 2020. The event is being held at the Sunnyvale Presbyterian Church at 728 W. Fremont Ave. in Sunnyvale from 8 a.m. to noon.
The overall goal of the gun buyback event is to reduce the availability of unwanted, unsafe and illegal guns in communities by providing an opportunity for the safe and anonymous disposal of firearms.
In a joint statement, District Attorney Jeff Rosen, Sunnyvale Public Safety Chief Phan Ngo, Los Altos Chief Andy Galea, Mountain View Chief Max Bosel, Palo Alto Chief Robert Jonsen, Santa Clara Police Chief Mike Sellers, and Campbell Police Chief Gary Berg stated, “We are committed to collaborating to keep our communities safe. Gun buyback events provide a straightforward, efficient and easy way to dispose of unwanted guns. Gun buybacks also reduce the number of guns in homes that can be stolen and used by criminals. We are honored that the participating cities and law enforcement departments are working together to make this event a success.”
Participating agencies and elected officials have provided the funding necessary to pay participants for their firearms. Each participant will receive $100 per handgun and $200 per assault rifle to the maximum of $400. There will be no limit to the number of guns an individual may surrender for safe disposal. An important reminder for the day of the event; all guns must be unloaded and stored in the trunk of participants’ car. Buybacks will be first-come, first-serve.
