Personal Injury Crash

Sheriff Richard J. Behnke reports that on 01/27/2020 at 1711 Hours, his office was called to investigate a personal injury crash that occurred at the intersection of M62 and Hospital St. in Jefferson Township, Cass County Michigan. Investigation shows 21 year old Elkhart resident, Kevin McCarthy, was south bound on M62 when he failed to yield the right of way while turning east on to Hospital St for the northbound vehicle driven by 54 year old Cassopolis resident, Steven Wilds. Wilds was transported by Life Care EMS to Lakeland Hospital Niles for his injures. McCarthy was transported by a relative to seek medical treatment for minor injuries that he sustained. Both vehicles air bags deployed, and the drivers were wearing seatbelts. No alcohol or drugs were suspected to be contributing to this crash. This incident remains under investigation.
