Sexual Battery Arrest
On Thursday, 1/30/20, at approximately 7:25 pm, Sonoma Police Deputies received a report from a teenager that a man assaulted her while she was walking on the bicycle/pedestrian path near the police department. The suspect grabbed her from her buttocks and thighs in an attempt to bring himself closer to her. The victim was able to slap his hands away. The suspect repeated his actions and grabbed the victim again in the same manner. The victim was able to push the suspect away then turned to see who the assailant was. Upon doing so, she saw the suspect unzip his pants and expose himself to her. The victim continued to walk away from him. The suspect grabbed the victim for the third time from behind in the same manner as before. The victim pushed the suspect away and began yelling at him, which caused him to run off.
Deputies immediately checked the area for the suspect. One man was detained, but the victim confirmed that he was not the person who assaulted her. The man was immediately released.
On Saturday, 2/1/20, the victim contacted Sonoma Police to report that she was sent a photo of the suspect, who was currently at the Field of Dreams Park. Deputies responded to the Field of Dreams Park and spoke with the victim. She was able to point out the suspect who had assaulted her two nights prior.
Deputies arrested 29 year old Ruben Reyes-Gallardo of Sonoma for attempt rape, sexual battery, indecent exposure and violation of probation. Reyes-Gallardo is currently on probation for a past drug-related case. Reyes-Gallardo was booked at the Sonoma County Jail, and is currently in custody with a bail amount of $31,000.
I want to commend the victim for her bravery and for immediately reporting this to police and helping us solve the case. This appears to be an isolated crime and a random act by the suspect.
