Flood Warning until 07:30PM

The National Weather Service in BLACKSBURG has issued a

* Flood Warning for... Smyth County in southwestern Virginia... Tazewell County in southwestern Virginia...

* Until 730 PM EST Thursday

* At 734 AM EST, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain that will result in continued flooding. Up to two inches of rain have already fallen, with another inch likely over the next 12 hours. Tributary rises continue in the area, with reports of two minor mudslides in Saltville and several roads closed in Tazewell County. The Clinch River at Richlands continues to rise, currently situated at 8.56 ft with a flood stage of 10 feet. With the expected additional rainfall, the river will likely rise above flood stage later this morning, possibly cresting near 13 feet. If this were to occur, this would be the highest readings since November of 2003.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include... Marion... Richlands... Bluefield... Tazewell... and Saltville.

* AFFECTED AREAS: TAZEWELL, VA ... SMYTH, VA

Instructions:

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, country roads, farmland, and other low lying spots. When it is safe to do so, please send your reports of flooding, including mudslides or flooded roads, to the National Weather Service by calling toll free at 1...8 6 6...2 1 5...4 3 2 4.
