Homicide Investigation Update 
HAYWARD, Calif.,— On Tuesday, February 4th, 2020, at about 5:40 PM our officers responded to the 24000 block of Willimet Way for a report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, we found a woman suffering from stab wound(s). Paramedics responded to the scene; however, the woman was pronounced deceased.
The victim was identified as 38-year-old Maria Hernandez out of Hayward. The victim’s husband, 40-year-old Elmer Ugarte was arrested a short time after the homicide occurred.
On Friday, February 7th, 2020, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office charged Ugarte with murder of Hernandez and child endangerment. Ugarte is currently being held at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin.
