...ACCUMULATING SNOW TO IMPACT THE EXTREME SOUTHERN APPALACHIANS IN NORTH CAROLINA...SOUTH CAROLINA...AND GEORGIA TODAY... .A low pressure system moving quickly across the Deep South this morning will cross the western Carolinas and northeast Georgia through the daytime hours. Cold and dry air in place across the region ahead of this system will support snowfall as the precipitation develops from the west-southwest through the later morning hours. The highest snow accumulations will likely occur near the junction of the Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina borders in the extreme southern Appalachians.
* WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches, with local 4 inch amounts near the North Carolina border.
* WHERE...Rabun and Habersham Counties in extreme northeast Georgia.
* WHEN...From 6 AM this morning to 7 PM EST this evening.
* IMPACTS...Accumulating snow on area roadways, and reduced visibility in snow, could make travel very difficult.
