Flood Watch until 06:00PM Tuesday
...Flooding Potential Will Increase Today and Tuesday... .The Flood Watch has been expanded to include additional counties in north Mississippi, and Phillips County in east central Arkansas. Showers and thunderstorms will continue to bring locally heavy rainfall today, mainly along and south of the Interstate 40 corridor. These showers and thunderstorms will gradually shift southward along an advancing cold front this afternoon. This cold front will slow as it moves into central Mississippi tonight. Periods of moderate to heavy rain will be likely over north Mississippi tonight, along and north of the slowing cold front. By sunrise Tuesday, 3 to 5 inches of rainfall are expected over the watch area, with isolated amounts to 6 inches possible south of an Oxford to Tupelo line. After a brief respite Tuesday morning and early afternoon, additional showers and thunderstorms will move into north Mississippi late Tuesday afternoon. This rain will precede locally heavy rainfall along and south of the Interstate 40 corridor Wednesday, possibly necessitating a future extension and northward expansion of the Flood Watch. In addition to anticipated lowland flooding over the watch area, the threat of river flooding will increase significantly through midweek. The Flood Watch is now in effect for
