The Hesperia Police Department and the City of Hesperia has applied for an Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Grant
DATE/TIME: February 25, 2020
INCIDENT: Public Comment Period, Off Highway Motor Vehicle Grant
LOCATION: Hesperia
SUMMARY:
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Hesperia Police Department, in cooperation with the City of Hesperia, has applied for grant funding from California State Parks Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Division.
Although there are no legal riding areas within the City of Hesperia, our deputies provide educational information on where the legal riding areas are within San Bernardino County. Deputies enforce the vehicle code reference to off-highway vehicles to detour people from trespassing on private property. During community events, the Hesperia Station will educate the public by handing out safety flyers and maps of the local riding areas.
The grant, if funded, is for off-highway vehicle enforcement in the City of Hesperia. The project will provide the funding for staff to work specialized operations throughout the year and will help the purchase of safety equipment for the team members assigned to the station. Assigned deputies will conduct vehicle stops on violators and take criminal reports.
Please visit the California State Parks, OHV website at OHV.PARKS.CA.GOV and select "grants." Find the "Click here to provide public comments" button and follow the "Public Comments Instructions." These comments are important in determining how and where grant funds are used. The Public Comment Period begins on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, and ends on Monday, May 4, 2020. We value your input and look forward to providing a safe environment for OHV enthusiasts.
